The Healing Powers of Vitamin Supplements

Vitamins and minerals have had a really good rap over the last decade or so, but despite what some people say, they are not a magic pill. Nonetheless, it is extremely tempting to look at them in that manner. Anything that’s as easy to take as a vitamin supplement that can help you live longer, look better, help protect against serious conditions like cancer and heart disease, enhance your immune system, battle against viruses and colds, help you manage anxiety attack and supercharge your energy levels sure does sounds pretty miraculous or magical.

Fairly recently, when people first began talking about the restorative potential of nutritional supplements, people who were interested in protecting their health started to clamber for vitamin pills and were desperate to know if they could possibly be used as part of a liver detox diet regime. As it happened, so did health authors and even some people in the medical profession. For a while, the rumor was that you could protect yourself against illness just by taking loads of vitamins. Start pumping vitamin pills like there was no tomorrow, and presto! Ultimate health here we come.

The bad news is that there’s more to perfect health than just vitamins. As we very quickly realized, health supplements, regardless of how powerful they may be, can’t cure everything. They do, however, have an important part in our diets. A lot of scientific research are making interest in the topic heat up all over again. Some of the things that scientists have discovered about the healing power of these vital nutrients will blow your mind.

Let’s take a brief look at just one study that didn’t get all that much publicity. Scientists in the UK monitored 200 people working in management roles within the manufacturing industry. As part of the research, one group were given a traditional vitamin supplement but the other half received a placebo with no nutritional value at all. When the 2 month study ended, the results showed that those taking the vitamins pills experienced a marked improvement in their quality of life.

The control group (those taking the placebo) felt no different than at the beginning of the study. Researchers concluded that the supplements seemed to have a positive effect on improving the managers’ moods and reducing their stress levels. And all of that from taking a complete health supplement each day… with all those clinical trials to confirm their conclusions.

As more and more rigorous scientific studies accumulate giving more evidence to the life enhancing powers of vitamins, especially when used to support a natural detox diets, we’re back at the good old days again: eager to make use of these health enhancing properties – yet at the same time completely confused due to information overload. While the reasons for taking vitamins and minerals are now backed up by clinical trials, shopping for nutrients is still nothing less than overwhelming.
