Who Do You Think You Are and Genealogy DNA

November 17th, 2009

In the UK there is a very popular program called “Who do you think you are?”   This television program has notable personalities that volunteer for genealogy and DNA testing to have their family history researched by experts in order to show who their likely ancestors are.  There are very surprising results at times.

Now you too can help to prove your ancestors through performing standard genealogical research and then you can add in a DNA test that will show your connection to your parents and will show parallel cousinships to common ancestors.

There is no doubt that you can prove the parents as long as all three people can be tested.  Half of your DNA code comes from your father called Y-DNA and half comes from your mother or Y-DNA.

All you have to do is to collect enough cells from each to make a scientific test.  These methods might be through a blood test comparisons or from such things as; some hair strands, saliva, a tooth brush that has only been used by the single person, or even cups and cans or things like cigarette butts, and many other sources.  Many of the obscure types of collecting can be quite costly to test.

There are now much cheaper methods to use for testing DNA for genealogy and family history testing.  DNA kits will provide a small scraper that you just run up and down inside the cheek and send it in to the lab.

The reports that will be returned from the DNA Testing Centers will show your immediate information and then there will be instructions on how to plug your data in to huge databases of results from millions of other people that have been tested.

These reports will be able to show you the percentage of chances you will have to having ancestors that were European, Asian, African, and even Native American.  Genealogy DNA will be a standard procedure from now on thanks to the advances of this type of technology.

Fire Safety Emergency is Everyone’s Job

October 12th, 2009

In a fire safety emergency we are all fortunate to have a local fire department to call on.  These gallant and brave men and women that serve their local communities deserve all the praise and thanks for their work and words are not enough.

You will note that these firefighters do not consider themselves heroes but when asked, they will just say that they were doing their job.  One way that you can become proactive in not having to call the fire department in the first place is to do a survey of your own home and place of business to see that all of your trouble spots are cleaned up and corrected, long before a fire safety emergency call is necessary.

Fire Safety and Your Home

In 2004, the 410 thousand residential fires in America caused more than 14 thousand injuries and 3 thousand deaths, according to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). You can prevent fire-related deaths and injuries, and even most residential fires by being knowledgeable about fire safety. Ensure your and your family’s safety by creating an escape plan, teaching children fire safety and fire-proofing your home.

Safety Escape Plan

a fire safety escape plan tells everyone what to do if your home catches on fire. Your family needs to discuss fire safety issues, and design an escape plan for your home. The escape plan needs to inform everyone in your family of the two safest routes out of each room in your house and where to meet once outside.

When discussing fire safety issues with your family, it is also a good idea to talk about each person’s responsibilities in the case of a fire, such as who helps whom out of the house. Be sure to explain to each family member to crawl to a safe exit; don’t stop to save anything, and, if possible, to alert others by yelling “FIRE!” or beating on doors as they crawl by.

Safety and Kids

Fire safety and education begins with children. Tragically, children cause over thousands of residential fires each year, the majority stemming from children playing with matches. You need to teach your children to obey the following fire safety rules: Never play with matches or lighters, always have an adult help you when cooking, never touch gasoline or any other flammable liquids, Always STOP, DROP, AND ROLL! if you or your clothes catch on fire. Never place anything into an electrical outlet and always get help from an adult if something catches on fire.

Your children are the most important people in your life, so educate them about fire safety and prevention.

Safety and Your Home

Electrical fires are the most common type of residential fires in America. The following fire safety tips lower the probability of residential electrical fires: Don’t overload outlets or piggy-back extension cords, Keep all combustible items, such as hairspray and household cleaners, away from all heaters, Check all electrical tools and appliances for frayed or cracked cords, Purchase electrical appliances that meet the Underwriter’s Laboratory’s (UL) safety requirements and Keep children away from electrical appliances, such as heaters and irons.

Electric stoves, ovens, stereos, heaters, and clothes dryers are responsible for the majority residential electrical fires. Follow all manufacturers’ instructions, and use all appliances carefully and responsibly. Sometimes, no matter the precautionary fire safety steps you take, an electrical fire can still occur. If this happens, knowing the proper fire safety procedure is invaluable in keeping your home safe. Shut off burning appliances by unplugging the cord, Put out small fires with your home fire extinguisher, Do not put water on electrical fires, Get everyone out of the house and Do not try to handle large fires by yourself; call 911, report the fire, and tell them it is an electrical fire.

Educating yourself and your family on fire safety helps to lower your chances of a residential fire and gives you the knowledge of what to do in the case of a fire.

A Killer Trade Show Exhibit is a Winner

October 4th, 2009

Your business will use many different types of advertising and promotions until you decide which type of promotion results in the best ROI.  One method that is sure to have excellent results is to have a company trade show display booth at a trade show in your industry.

The attendees that walk through the isles at a trade show are there primarily for one purpose, and that is to see what’s shaking, what’s new, where is the latest buzz?  The big companies all know this and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year in displays at trade shows all over the world.

Want to know how those big companies got big?  The answer is: “TRADE SHOWS”!

The purpose of tradeshow exhibits is to showcase your product or services. To do this in the best light presents your product or company service in a new and fashionable way that is unique.  Flair counts here folks.  It’s the bright lights and the big cities that get noticed.

Your Trade Show Exhibit must shout out who you are and what you are up to.  This is your chance to shine and you only have a few hours to make hay so put every thing you have into your presentation.

The attendees that are walking by your booth are the very best targeted group of customers that you will ever find.  You can run advertisements all over until your ink runs out and you will never reach as many people in one spot that want to learn, want to buy and want to use your stuff to make more money for themselves!  They very likely paid some of their hard earned cash to enter into the exhibit area and they are there to buy!

You can cut some corners on set up time with a little forward thinking and a modest investment.  Set up your trade show display booth real fast with a Retractable Banner Stand.  A little money invested here will throw off huge benefits each time you use it.

The best trade show display is one that fits your budget and gives the most bang for the buck.  A Portable Trade Show Display just might fit that bill for you to best advantage.  The hustle and bustle of attending a trade show and setting up your exhibit will go very quickly with portability.

Portable trade show displays are easy to assemble and dismantle. They come in various sizes, shapes, and costs. Many trade show display systems claim to be ‘portable’ but are not. Truly portable displays can be packed into cases and easily transported and set up. Portable displays can be customized according to your needs for different trade shows.

Used trade show booths will save you a ton of money on the outlay of capital and your budget money for the show will be better spent in other areas.  Almost all of the previously used displays may be reused and set up with a new design that will be just right for your company’s presentation.  Check with advertisers for used trade show booths and read the information in the following article for more ideas.

Another way to get in the game without making a large capital investment is to consider renting your trade show booth.  The benefits of renting a trade show display, instead of purchasing one, can be numerous for small businesses or start-ups attending their first trade show and large businesses looking to increase interest at their next show.

All of the above points for a great trade show display booth and more will be found on Best Tradeshow Display website.  We urge you to take a look and come away with some great ideas on putting your business out in front of the competition.
